Pontederia cordata, commonly known as Pickerel Weed, is a stunning pond marginal plant that produces spikes of vivid violet-blue flowers from early summer through to autumn, making it one of the longest-blooming plants for the pond's edge. It is a true marginal plant that must be grown in shallow water at a depth of 5 to 20cm, where its glossy, heart-shaped leaves create a lush, dense clump. Pickerel Weed is also a superb wildlife plant, beloved by bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Plant in a mesh basket with aquatic compost and enjoy months of bold, reliable colour.
